Welcome to Reception at Oakdene Primary Academy!
Ofsted Outstanding 2024
We are excited to welcome children into our Reception classes at Oakdene Primary Academy. Reception marks the beginning of your child’s full-time school journey, and we are committed to making this transition smooth, joyful, and enriching.
One September Intake:
We operate a single intake in September, with a staggered start to support a calm and confident transition for every child. This allows children to settle in gradually and build strong relationships with staff and peers.
What We Offer:
At Oakdene, Reception is more than just the next step- it’s a dynamic and nurturing learning environment where children work towards the Early Learning Goals through play, exploration, and high-quality teaching.
Small Class Sizes & High-Level Adult Support:
- Our Reception classes benefit from small group sizes and a high ratio of adult support, ensuring every child receives personalised attention and guidance.
Bespoke Outdoor Learning:
- Children have daily access to our Creative Courtyard, a bespoke outdoor area designed to inspire imagination, collaboration, and physical development.
- They also enjoy time in The Orchard, a natural space for multi-sensory, malleable play that encourages exploration and creativity.
- In addition, children take part in Forest School activities in our dedicated forest area, where they build confidence, resilience, and a love for nature through hands-on outdoor learning.
Exceptional Early Education:
- Our curriculum supports the prime areas of learning- communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development- while introducing the specific areas such as literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design.
- We nurture the whole child, recognising and celebrating each child’s unique strengths, interests, and personality.
Play-Based Learning:
- Learning is driven by child-led play, outdoor adventures, music and movement, and hands-on activities that build confidence and curiosity.
Strong Parent Partnerships:
- We work closely with families to support children’s progress and wellbeing, with regular updates, open communication, and opportunities to get involved.
